The Happy Pals Lost Tracks - Limited Edition
The first Happy Pals "Bonus Tracks" CD: Four unissued tracks from the Moonlight Bay disc, featuring guest Dr Michael White on clarinet; and one unissued tune from 2005's New Orleans Party Orchestra album. Rounding out the disc is one previously released song, here complete with unissued introduction by Patrick Tevlin and Michael White talking about Kid Bastien and Kid Thomas. In total 44 minutes.

"This session, recorded just over ten years ago, marked the band's 25th anniversary. It proves itself to be a strong band, full of life and energy.The rhythm section is outstandingly good, bouncing along with a steady beat throughout the session. Kid Bastien on trumpet and Patrick Tevlin on tenor sax make for a very effective and energetic combination. Bastien has somehow absorbed the essence of the Thomas sound, and treats us to a gamut of his mentor's bag of tricks plus a few of his own; those remarkable shakes and staccato combination punches are all here, together with some original ideas in a similar vein. Patrick Tevlin's muscular swing on tenor is strongly reminiscent of Manuel Paul with some Captain John Handy licks thrown in, but again, the overall impression ithat a way of playing has been acquired rather than just a catalogue of borrowed notes.
"This CD is a fine testament to the late Kid Bastien's devotion to Kid Thomas, both as a trumpeter and a bandleader. It is probably one of the best examples of 'second hand' New Orleans music yet recorded, which seems a very good reason to recommend it."
